All applicants:

• Must be a U.S. citizen

• Must be Airborne qualified or volunteer for Airborne School

• Must meet and exceed Special Forces Fitness Standards

• Must meet medical fitness standards for Special Forces as outlined in AR 40-501

• Must be eligible for a "SECRET" security clearance (security clearance is not required to attend SFAS)

All applicants MUST NOT:

• Be under suspension of favorable personnel action

• Have been convicted by court-martial or have disciplinary action noted in their official military documents under the provisions of the Uniform Code of Military Justice (Article 15)

• Have received an Article 15 for drug-related offense, Insubordination, etc.

• Exceed weight standards in accordance with AR 600-9 barred to reenlistment

Enlisted requirements:

• You must have a minimum rank of E-3 and must be 20 years old at the start of Special Forces Assessment and Selection (SFAS) with a waiver

• You must not be older than 36 years (waiverable) for SFAS attendance

• You must be eligible for a Secret security clearance

• You must be airborne qualified or volunteer for airborne training

• You must have no more than 14 years time in service (E-3 to E-6)

• ​​You must have no more than 12 years time in service and nine months time-in-grade when applying for the SFAS course (E-7)​

• ​You must be either Airborne or Ranger qualified (E-7)

• You must attend the SFAS course within 90 days of volunteering and be able to PCS to the SFQC within 6 months of selection at SFAS (E-7)

• You must sign a Master Sergeant (MSG) declination statement prior to attending SFQC (E-7)

• You must meet ASVAB Score Requirements

• You must pass a Special Forces physical in accordance with AR 40-501

• You must be able to reclassify from your current MOS or branch

• You must have a minimum of 36 months remaining time in service at the time you graduate SFQC

• You must not have 30 days or more lost time under USC 972 within your current or preceding enlistments

Officer requirements:

• Officer applicants must be branch qualified and be in the grade of first lieutenant (promotable) or captain.

• Captains must have less than two years TIG upon completion of SFAS

• Have at least a SECRET security clearance prior to arrival at Fort Bragg and meet eligibility criteria for a TOP SECRET clearance

• Have completed the Officer Basic Course and have been successful in your branch assignments prior to application for SF

• Have a Defense Language Aptitude Battery (DLAB) Score of 85 or higher (or a Defense Language Proficiency Test (DLPT) of a minimum of 1/1 Reading and Listening Score)
